Athina Kakou Patternsin Suzy-mekko on kiehtonut mieltäni jo jonkin aikaa. Olen nähnyt tästä mekosta mitä kauneimpia versiota, joten päätin vihdoin kokeilla millaisen kesämekon saisin tällä kaavalla loihdittua.

Suzy on yksinkertainen trikoomekko, jonka salaisuus on helman kauniissa halkiossa ja vyötärön kivassa rypytyksessä.

Ompelin oman mekkoni kauniista puuvillatrikoosta. Tämä kangas olikin juuri omiaan tähän kaavaan. Puuvillatrikoon rinnalla mietin jotakin hieman paksumpaa kangasta, mutta päätin säästää sen version tekemisen syksymmälle.

Mekon rakenne on hyvin yksinkertainen, ja ohjeet olivat selkeät. Yksityiskohtaiset kuvalliset ohjeet tekivätkin tämän mekon ompelemisesta todella helppoa. Helman kaunis halkio oli opastettu niin hyvin, etten törmännyt minkäänlaisiin ongelmiin. Vyötärö rypytetään kuminauhalla, mikä on aina yksinkertainen ja helppo tapa tuoda trikoovaatteeseen hieman ryhtiä ja muotoa.

Lyhensin hameen helmaa 15 senttimetriä, sillä halusin ommella rennon kesämekon. Alkuperäisessä kaavassa helma ulottuu selvästi polven alapuolelle. Olen nähnyt upeita versiota sekä pidemmistä että lyhyemmistä helmoista, joten tässä mekossa on muuntelumahdollisuuksia. Mikäli päätät lyhentää helmaa, muista tehdä se kaavaan merkitystä kohdasta.

Siitä on hieman aikaa kun olen viimeksi ommellut tällaisen yksinkertaisen trikoomekon. Täytyy sanoa, että tämä oli kiva ja rentouttava ompeluprojekti. Olen käyttänyt mekkoa paljon ja tykkään siitä todella paljon. Suunnitelmissani onkin jo seuraava Suzy-mekko syksyn ja talven varalle.

The Suzy dress by AK Patterns has been on my mind for already some time now. I have seen the most beautiful versions of this dress. Last month I finally decided it was time to give this pattern a try and see what kind of summer dress I could create of it.

Suzy is a simple jersey dress. It has stylish slit detail on its hem and it is gathered around the waist.

I used a beautiful cotton jersey to make my dress. This fabric proved to be just the right choice for this pattern. Another option that I was thinking was to use ponte roma fabric. But I chose to save this option for an autumn version.

The structure of the Suzy dress is very simple and instructions are clear. Detailed instructions with clear illustrations made sewing this dress very easy. The lovely slit detail was instructed so well that I didn’t face any troubles while sewing it. Waist is gathered with clear elastic, which is the easiest way to bring some structure and shape to a jersey garment.

I shortened the hem by some 15 centimetres since I wanted this to be a very relaxed summer dress. The original hem length was under the knee. I have seen gorgeous version of this dress with many different hem lengths so there are many options how to alter the hem. If you decide to make the hem shorter, just keep in mind that the right place to do this is printed on the pattern.

It’s been a while since I last made a simple jersey dress like this. I can honestly say that this was a fun and relaxing sewing project. I have worn my new dress a lot. And needless to say, I already have plans for an autumn/winter Suzy dress.
