Mekkojen vuosi sai ihanan alun päästessäni vihdoin ompelemaan mekon tällä ihanalla kaavalla. Simplicity 1418 on Simplicityn Project Runway -kokoelmaa, ja kaava on odottanut pitkän aikaa kaavakokoelmassani oikean kankaan löytymistä.

Käytin mekkoon kaunista puuvillaa, joka on paksuudeltaan sieltä keskivaiheilta. Se laskeutuu kauniisti, mutta pitää tarpeen tullen myös ryhtinsä. Mekon yläosan vuoritin ohuella valkoisella puuvillalla.

Kaavana Simplicity 1418 ei tuottanut pettymystä. Vaihtoehtoja on – kuten muissakin Project Runway -kaavoissa – monia. Itse päätin tehdä version, jossa on pienet hihat ja joka ei ole selästä avoin. Ohjeet eivät yllä yksityiskohdiltaan yksityisten kaavanvalmistajien ohjeiden tasolle, mutta olivat kuitenkin tarpeeksi selkeät. Ainakin itse vältyin suuremmilta ongelmilta ompelumatkan varrella.

Mekon yläosan etupuolella on prinsessasaumat ja takana muotolaskokset. Näiden avulla yläosa istuu todella kauniisti. Helman etu- ja takakappale leikataan samaa kaavaa käyttäen. Kummassakin on kaksi kaunista laskosta. Helma ei ole liian leveä, joten mekko sopii hyvin arkisempaankin käyttöön.

Mekon ompelu vei aikaa suunnilleen päivän verran. Ompelin helman käsin, mikä vei tietysti oman aikansa, mutta osoittautui lopputuloksen kannalta hyväksi ratkaisuksi.

Teemavuosi pitäisi aina käynnistää projektilla, jonka toteuttamista on odottanut pitkään. Tällaisesta saa niin paljon inspiraatiota!

My Year of Dresses got a lovely start when I finally got to make a dress with this gorgeous pattern. Simplicity 1418 is part of Simplicity’s Project Runway collection and this pattern has waited a long time in my pattern stash for me to find the perfect fabric.

I used this beautiful medium weight cotton to make the dress. It has beautiful drape but has also enough structure when needed. I underlined the bodice with light weight white cotton.

This pattern did not let me down. There were plenty of options – as always with Project Runway patterns. I chose a version with little sleeves and no low cut back. Instructions are nowhere near as detailed as those by independent pattern designers. However, they were clear enough. At least I didn’t have any major problems along the way.

Front bodice has beautiful princess seams and bodice back has darts. These give the bodice a great fit. There is only one skirt pattern piece that is used for both front and back skirt. These have two pretty pleats. This dress doesn’t have a too wide hem, which makes it perfect for everyday wear.

This sewing project took me approximately one day. I wanted to sew the hem by hand, which took its own time of course. However, it was worth it.

I believe one should always start a theme year with a project that one has really been looking forward to. This one gives me so much inspiration!
